Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the care of injured, convalescent, or disabled persons in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Typical Functions
Administers prescribed medications or starts intravenous fluids, and note times andamounts on patients’ charts. Provides basic patient care and treatments, such as taking temperatures or bloodpressures, and dressing wounds. Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave. Answers patients’ calls and determines how to assist them. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of business and management principles and practices. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas. Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
The formal education equivalent of a certificate or academic degree from an accredited school of nursing or nurse practitioner program; plus four years of experience in the nursing field.

Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing in accordance with ACA 17-87-303. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
