Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply, applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age on or before the first day of the
internship, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
• Completed the first year of college and currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree
program
• Graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program no more than 2 years before the internship
• A veteran with a high school diploma or equivalent and served on active duty in the 2 years preceding
the internship
What is the application period?
Applications for the 2022 internship are open December 2021 through early spring of 2022.
What are the dates of the 2022 Public Service Internship?
The summer 2022 internship will run from Monday, June 6 through Friday, July 29th.
What career areas will this internship focus on?
Examples of available internship areas include finance, social work, technology, public health, engineering,
business, public safety, communications, education, research, cybersecurity, compliance, legal, marketing,
environment, administration, real estate services, tourism, and emergency management.
Interns will be matched with available internship positions within departments depending on their area of study
and experience.
What will I be doing as an intern?
This internship was created to give students an inside look at state government. Interns will walk away from this
internship with valuable knowledge, experience, contacts, and lifelong friendships. Each intern will be assigned
to an opening at various state departments based on availability (click HERE to view a list of
departments/potential placements.) Day-to-day, interns will work with staff within their assigned department on
projects. Additionally, Interns will have weekly internship meetings which will feature speakers such as the
Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, Department Secretaries, and many more in state leadership. Interns
will also have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at state facilities such as the Capitol, Governor’s
Mansion, Supreme Court, Arkansas State Police training track, Corrections facilities, and more. Every year we
aim to add to the internship experience.
How many hours a week will interns work?
This internship is a full-time position in which interns will work 40 hours per week, with the exception of state
holidays.
Is this internship paid?
Yes. Interns will be paid at an hourly rate. Any time missed will result in adjusted pay.
Where will the internship take place?
All interns will be placed in departments throughout the Little Rock metro area.
