Traveling Liberty Bell Visits Little Rock
(Little Rock) The American Legion hosted the “Traveling Liberty Bell” Thursday, June 4, at Post 1 in downtown Little Rock. The bell was brought to the state to honor PV2 William Andrew “Andy” Long of
Conway who was killed in Little Rock on Monday and all the soldiers in Arkansas who have lost their lives. Guests signed a condolence book that will be given to the Long family and visitors donated $1,000 to be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
On Friday, the bell was stationed in front of the State Capitol during Boys State. David Hall, dressed in 1750’s period clothes, addressed the boys about the liberty and freedoms our country was founded on. He then invited each of them to ring the bell and “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land
unto all the inhabitants thereof.”
David, keeper of the bell, and his wife are originally from Keller, Texas and have traveled around the country paying tribute to those who lost their lives in service for our country. The Halls say they have often logged 30-40,000 miles a year traveling with the bell. They began their odyssey some 15 years ago and have strong support in Texas. The bell stands with replicas of two large stone tablets displaying the Ten Commandments.
