A New Tradition is Started at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in 2008
(North Little Rock) The Memorial Day ceremony on Monday the 26th was a success with close to 600 in attendance. The sweltering heat didn’t keep the public away from the new location at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Mike Nuckolls, State Commander of the VFW, as the master of ceremonies, helped to make the service run smooth. In attendance were Governor Mike Beebe, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, Senator Mark Pryor and representatives of all military branches. Governor Beebe remarked, “We pay tribute to not only those people who lay in the ground as a hero, but we pay tribute to their families who every bit as much sacrifice and serve for their country.” The sea wreaths were thrown into the lake in remembrance of those lost at sea. Rex Roark, President of the Fleet Reserve Association and Chairman of the Arkansas Veterans’ Commission led the sea portion of the ceremony as Jerry Hobson read the names of individuals who had passed with the ringing of the bell. On the Friday before the ceremony, Rolling Thunder and Boy Scout Troop 427 Immaculate Conception set out flags on every gravesite in the cemetery.The below photos were taken by ADVA in 2008.
